The park vision, “to develop a unique recreational venue and regional destination that caters for a wider range of adventure and education activities, in a managed sustainable way.”
Western Bay of Plenty District Council and Tauranga City Council jointly purchased the huge block of land in 2004, with the support of naming rights sponsor TECT (Tauranga Energy Consumers Trust) and Bay Trust.
Making this vision a reality is well underway. The councils have partnered with the MTB Tauranga and Pikopiko Trails Inc. to create tailored mountain biking and horse-riding activity sites in the park. A family-friendly motorcycle area has also been established by Council. Bay of Plenty Paintball Club and Tauranga Airsoft Club have recently joined, as well as other gun clubs including BOP Clay Target Association Inc., New Zealand Deer Stalkers Association and BOP Pistol Association Inc. The newly formed Te Matai Motorsports club is hoping to have their rally circuit completed by the end of this year.
A one of its kind in New Zealand in terms of size, diversity of terrain and the potential to host motorised sports and other events and recreations, the TECT All Terrain Park is a unique place.
